Thomas J. Hanks Sr, 44, resident of White Earth, MN, died Sunday, October 21, 2012 in Sanford Health, Fargo, ND following a two year battle with cancer.
Funeral Services for Thomas will be held Thursday, October 25, 2012 at 11:00 AM in St. Columba Episcopal Church, White Earth, MN. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 24, 2012 in White Earth Community Center starting at 4PM and continuing until the time of services on Thursday.
Thomas James Hanks was born December 17, 1967 in Detroit Lakes, MN to Ethel Hanks. He grew up in White Earth, MN and attended school at Circle of Life and later Waubun, MN and Sisseton, SD. He attended college at the Minneapolis Vo-Tech and finished at Duluth Vo-Tech, earning a degree in auto mechanics. Thomas moved back to White Earth in the early 1990's. He was employed with LaDue Construction out of Waubun, Shooting Star Casino in Mahnomen and enjoyed working on any type of car. He was united in marriage to Ruby Lague in Mahnomen, MN. They would later divorce. In September of 2011, Thomas was united in marriage to Lynette Hill in Sisseton. In April of 2010, Thomas was diagnosed with cancer. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, summer barbequing and occasional trips to the casino to play Keno. Thomas was a traditional Pow-Wow dancer and loved attending Pow-Wows when ever possible.
Thomas is survived by his wife: Lynnette of White Earth, children: Lana Jo Hanks of St. Paul, Chantel Hanks of Thief River, Lara Hanks of Waubun, Thomas Hanks Jr. of Pine Center, Dallas W. Hanks of Waubun, Barbara Ann Hanks of White Earth, step-son: A.J. Hill of White Earth and two grandchildren: Sunshine and Harmony of St. Paul. He is also survived by his mother: Ethel Feather (Bob Davey) of Finley, ND, two brothers: Randy Hanks of White Earth and Dean Hanks of Mahnomen.
He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, pateral grandfather, brother: Lavern Hanks, sisters: Cheryl Hanks and Lorraine Hanks along with six uncles and two aunts.
