Adrienne M. Piche, age 88, a longtime resident of Detroit Lakes, MN passed away on Monday, July 5, 2021 at Essentia St. Mary’s Hospital in Detroit Lakes.
Adrienne Marie Piche was born March 20, 1933 in Beaulieu, MN to Harold and Elizabeth Nystrom. She graduated from Mahnomen High School in 1950 and earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Moorhead State Teachers College in 1953. Adrienne was united in marriage to Darvin Piche in June 1954 in Mahnomen. They spent 6 short years in Moorhead before moving to their forever home in Detroit Lakes in 1960. In addition to running various businesses in Detroit Lakes with her husband, Adrienne was a Mathematics teacher. She taught in multiple area schools, spending the majority of her teaching career at Ulen-Hitterdahl High School where she remained until her retirement. She was a respected teacher who was always willing to go above and beyond to help her students. Adrienne and Darvin were married for 60 years until his passing on March 26, 2015.
Adrienne loved the holidays, especially Christmas, and any time spent surrounded by her family. Her pancake breakfasts and holiday feasts were always a big hit at her house! After retiring, she passed her time gardening and tinkering at home. It was impossible for her to pass up a good rummage sale or thrift store - she often brought home “treasures” from her many sprees and loved to tell the stories about the great deals she got. She was an avid fan of any sport her children and grandchildren played, and she never missed an opportunity to cheer on her favorite MN teams – the Twins, the Vikings and the Wild. She was known to yell “BINGO” a time or a hundred and played more cards in one game than many people play in a lifetime. She never turned down an opportunity to help her grandkids with any school subject and she was a firm believer that “with a sharp pencil comes a sharp mind”. Her big heart and gentle nature will be greatly missed by everyone who loved her.
Adrienne is survived by her children: Candyce (John) Steffl of Detroit Lakes, Ruth Brodsho of Detroit Lakes, Barbara (Lane) Engberg of Detroit Lakes, Harold (Cindy) of Wauzhushk Onigum, Ontario, Canada, James (Lisa) of Detroit Lakes, 23 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren. In addition to her husband Darvin, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Denise Peters, her parents, 2 brothers and a sister.
