Agnes Wenner

Agnes “Babe” Wenner, age 87, of Detroit lakes, MN, died on Wednesday, October 11 2017, at Ecumen-Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 pm on Tuesday, October 17, 2017, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Detroit Lakes.  Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 pm on Monday, October 16, 2017, at David Donehower Funeral Home, with a Catholic Daughter’s Rosary at 6:30 pm and a Prayer Service at 7 pm.  Visitation will also continue one hour prior to Mass on Tuesday.  Interment will be held at Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery in Detroit Lakes.

Agnes Rose Wenner was born on April 3, 1930, on the family farm near Waubun MN.  She attended country school and high school in Waubun, graduating in 1949.  She moved to Detroit Lakes and worked at the First National bank.  She married Alvin Wenner of Detroit Lakes on October 25, 1952.  They lived on a farm just west of the city for sixty-five years, raising their five children.  She and her good friend Jean DeMarteleare operated a catering service in the 1970’s and 1980’s for weddings and anniversaries in the area.  She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, a member of Christian Mothers as a circle captain for many years, and the Catholic Daughters of Holy Rosary Council.  She helped at many funerals over the years.

She and her husband traveled extensively visiting all 50 states, many foreign countries and all seven continents.  She enjoyed homemaking, gardening, cooking and baking, visiting relatives and friends, playing cards, watching the Minnesota Twins on TV, and seeing her grandchildren grow up to adulthood.

She is survived by five children: Janet (David) Bailly of Fargo ND, Gary (Judy) Wenner of Savage, MN; Paul (Paula) Wenner of Annandale, VA; Mary (Ron) Wenner of Lake Elmo, MN;  Charles (David) Wenner of Los Angeles, CA;  eight grandchildren: Amy (Ryan) Rascop of Prior Lake, MN; Ben (Stacey) Wenner of Savage, MN; Nicole (Ben) Walker of Fargo, ND;  Branden Kalstad of Los Angeles, CA; Michelle (Tyler) Bredeson of Alexandria, MN; Sarah (Steve) Casperson of Prior Lake, MN;  Ian Wenner of Toledo, OH; and Rachel Wenner of Richmond, VA; and three great-grandchildren:  Britta Rascop, Jacob Tullis, and Daisy Walker.

She was preceded in death by four sisters: Dorthea Marthaler, Blanche Walz Gertrude Stiles, and Barbara Hawkinson; a brother, Edward Uhlir; and her parents, William and Josephine (Pavek) Uhlir.
