Alvin H. Bloom, Sr., 78 of Detroit Lakes, MN died Wednesday, November 28 at St. Marys Nursing Center in Detroit Lakes. Mass of Christian Burial will be 1:00 PM Monday, December 3 at St. Marys Catholic Church in Red Lake, MN with Father Pat Sullivan officiating. Interment is in St. Marys Catholic Cemetery, Red Lake.
Visitation will begin at 5:00 PM Saturday, December 1 at the Old Pine Point School, Ponsford, MN and will continue there until 1:30 PM Sunday, December 2. Visitation will again continue at the Red Lake Center, Red Lake, MN Sunday, December 2 beginning at 5:00 PM until 11:00 AM Monday, December 3, prior to the service.
Alvin Howard Bloom, Sr. was born April 8, 1929 in Ponsford, MN to John and Louise (St. Clair) Mason. He was raised and attended school at Pine Point in Ponsford. Alvin entered the United States Army and Air Force, serving during the end of World War II and the Korean War. After his Honorable Discharge Alvin returned to Red Lake and was united in marriage with Theresa Lussier November 14, 1950. They moved to Ponsford in 1963 and Alvin worked for the White Earth Public Water Works and the Becker County Highway Department. Theresa died in 2000 and Alvin continued living in Ponsford.
Alvin is survived by three daughters, Arlys Bloom of Detroit Lakes, Alvina (Delmas) Fairbanks of Ponsford, Margaret (Lynn) Barten of Park Rapids, MN; one son, Alvin (Renee) Bloom, Jr. of Ponsford; one step-sister, Frieda Sorenson; 18 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Theresa; son, Terrance; two grandchildren.
Alvin loved the outdoors, cutting grass, playing Bingo, going to Pow-Wows to watch his grandkids, and going to the Casino.
