Alvin J. “Spoody” Bloom, Jr., 44, of Ponsford, MN died Tuesday, January 6 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Park Rapids, MN. The Funeral Service will be 11:00 AM Monday, January 12 at the Old Pinepoint School in Ponsford with Father Walter Butor officiating. Visitation will be 4:00 PM Saturday, January 10 to 1:00 PM Sunday, January 11 at the Red Lake Community Center, Red Lake, MN and will continue from 4:00 PM Sunday, January 11 until the time of the service on Monday at the Old Pinepoint School in Ponsford.
Alvin James “Spoody” Bloom, Jr. was born August 12, 1964 in Park Rapids to Alvin, Sr. and Theresa (Lussier) Bloom. He attended school in Park Rapids. Alvin had worked as a Game Warden for the White Earth RTC before joining the Police Academy in Arizona. He married Renee in Osage, MN in 1984. He was in Law Enforcement with Red Lake for one year and then moved to Ponsford. Alvin was employed with the Shooting Star Casino as Lead Security from 1991 to 1998. He later went to work for Leech Lake Gaming as security and worked his way up to Gaming Investigator. Alvin was a volunteer for Carsonville Fire and Rescue; going on both fire and ambulance calls. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed golfing, playing billiards and spending time with his family and friends; especially his grandchildren, Zanie and Analecia. Alvin was looking forward to his third grandchild which is due in March.
Alvin is survived by his wife, Renee Bloom; children, Amanda (Luis Ruiz) Eischens of Ponsford, Damian (Vanessa) Bloom of Moorhead, MN, Allena Gerving of Euclid, MN and Alisha Bloom of Ponsford; two grandchildren; special friend, Kim McMahon; three sisters, Arlys Bloom of Ponsford, Margaret (Lynn) Barten of Park Rapids and Alvina (Delmas) Fairbanks of Ponsford. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Terry Bloom and an infant daughter, Allison.
