Antonette (Toni) Carlene Maki, age 71, passed away on Sunday January 29th, in her home, in Detroit Lakes, MN where she was surrounded by family and loved ones.
Toni was born in Bottineau, ND on November 19th, 1951, to Howard and Evelyn Lunde. They lived in Westhope ND, where Toni would later graduate from high school in 1969.
Toni moved to Fargo in 1975, and a couple years later, she met the love of her life, Brian Maki. They made their home together in Fargo and were married on December 16th, 1978. They moved to Harwood and settled there for 37 years. After they both retired, they moved into a new home in Detroit Lakes MN to be closer to lake country.
Toni worked in various roles including, data entry and property management before she started at MidAmerica Steel in Fargo, where she worked for 26 years. Toni was able to meet and make great, lifelong friends while employed there. Toni later started working for the city of Harwood and would stay there until she retired and moved to Minnesota.
Toni enjoyed any time that she could spend with her family and friends. She loved being with her grandchildren and was notorious for freshly baked treats for every occasion. She loved playing cards and board games with friends, winning most of the time.
Toni loved to entertain. She decorated for every holiday and loved to have parties and get togethers. She was happiest when people were around her. She had an infectious smile and a laugh that you knew only to be hers.
Toni and Brian spent a lot of time traveling. They were known to drive across the country for a grandchild's baptism to daughter's graduation or promotion. Time spent traveling also included their winter migrations south. They resided in Bullhead City Arizona during the winter months, where they met wonderful neighbors that became great friends.
Toni is preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Evelyn Lunde; and a brother, Gregory Lunde. She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Brian Maki; daughter, Michelle Lafond; son, Marc Stratton (Susan Stratton); son, Chad Maki (Kim Maki); daughter, Heather Maki (Doug Lane); daughter, Alison Maki; grandchildren; Cody Lafond, Kyle Stratton, Riley Stratton, Carson Nass, Trenton Mahar, Cooper Satrom, Holly Maki, Amber Maki, Ruby Maki, Evan Lane.
