Arthur R. Disse, 94, of Detroit Lakes, MN died Friday, May 22, 2009 at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes. Mass of Christian Burial will be 1:00 PM Wednesday, May 27 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Detroit Lakes with Father Jerry Rogers officiating. Interment will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery, Detroit Lakes. Friends may call 4 – 7 PM Tuesday, May 26 with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Visitation continues one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
Arthur Raymond Disse was born August 6, 1914 in Erie Township, rural Detroit Lakes. He was raised and educated in Erie Township. Art was united in marriage with Luella Schultz September 6, 1938 in Detroit Lakes. They lived in Detroit Lakes their entire married life where he worked as a master carpenter. Luella died January 22, 1996. Art married Virginia Salo in July of 2000 in Detroit Lakes. He had raised mink and operated Art Disse Storage and Art Disse Construction.
Art enjoyed dancing, building furniture, his apple orchard, logging camp and being with people. He had a great sense of humor and had provided apples for the Holy Rosary pies. He also raised pumpkins for area schools.
Art is survived by his wife Virginia of Detroit Lakes; daughters, Marlene (David) Renner of Detroit Lakes, Diane Disse (Jim Murphy) of Lincoln City, OR, Karen (David) Bjorkman of Duluth, MN, Donna (Jack) Kennedy of Detroit Lakes, Sharon (Mike) Eilertson of Detroit Lakes; son, Gary (Betty) Disse of Detroit Lakes; 18 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; sister, Irene Kohler of Brainerd, MN; brothers, George of Detroit Lakes, Wilfred “Fritz” of Detroit Lakes and Earl (Evelyn) of Wolf Lake, MN. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Luella; sisters, Alice and Florence; brothers, Walter, Leonard and Charles “Bud”.
