Audrey K. Rodewald, 78, Detroit Lakes, MN, died Monday, July 15 at Ecumen-Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes.
Audrey Kathryn Rodewald was born March 17, 1935 in Ludington, MI to H. Elmer and Sigrud (Larson)Hansen. Following the death of her mother, she moved to Detroit Lakes, MN with her father and step-mother, Edna Hansen in 1938. In 1950, they moved to Edina, MN where Audrey graduated from Edina High School in 1953. They returned to Detroit Lakes in 1961. Audrey was united in marriage to Kermit Rodewald July 14, 1964 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Sisseton, SD. They lived on a farm in rural Callaway, MN prior to moving to Detroit Lakes where Audrey worked as a home health aide for Multi-County Nursing Service for 30 years. She retired in 1997. She was a member of the Board of Directors for 19 years at the Becker County Developmental Achievement Center. During that time, she and Kermit were also parents to 42 foster children. She enjoyed time with her children, swimming, ceramics, knitting, sewing and painting. Survivors include her husband of 49 years, Kermit of Detroit Lakes, her 42 foster children including Char Lee-Ovaldson, Tami Peppel, Ron Peppel and Jennifer Skoog; a brother: Roger F. (Kate) Hansen of Lexington, KY, a sister: Cindy (George) Camp of
Murphysboro, TN; a special cousin: Carol (Mike) Kissler of Pentiwater, MI.
