Barbara Ann Bennett

Barbara passed at her residence in Detroit Lakes, surrounded by her loving family, at the age of 66 on Monday, January 13th, 2025 after a long battle with cancer. She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all who know and love her. With a giving spirit, Barbara donated herself to the University of Minnesota science program for research that will benefit others in the future. Barb Mitchell was born February 4, 1958 in Grand Forks, ND; the daughter of William and Betty Jeffrey. She graduated from East Grand Forks Senior High. She was united in marriage to Loran Mitchell on July 6th 1979. Barb worked many jobs over her life, spending her later years as waitress and manager of the Chinese Dragon where she made lifelong friends. She always said get a job where you love the food, and she loved to eat! Barb was an avid gardener. She loved planning what she would grow each year and would have seeds started in the living room mid winter, but nothing GMO. She enjoyed cooking for her family, sending home her specialty Haloopies with anyone she could. She loved spending time with family; her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were very dear to her. She is survived by her father William Jeffrey; Children, Tricia (Robert) Wagley, Miranda (Christopher) Sherman, Stacia (Chris) Gjerde, and Veronica Hanson. Grandchildren, Marissa, Leslie, Zane, Broden, Ethan, Liam, Luke, Landyn, Kristopher, Jason, Brianna, and Krista. Great grandchildren, Layla, Leslie Jr., Ryder. Siblings, Becky (Rick) Fore, Penny (Rod) Bolstad, Craig (Tracey) Jeffrey, Thomas Mason. Special friend and caregiver Bryon Hultquist, Niece and caregiver Tona Mason, and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her mother Betty, her son Timothy, and great-grandchild Damion. A celebration of life will be held Sunday January 19th starting at 12:30 PM at the Detroit Lakes VFW; 500 Washington Ave, Detroit Lakes, MN, 56501
