Barbara Christensen

Barbara Ellen Christensen, 64, of Detroit Lakes, MN passed away on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at Emmanuel Nursing Center.  Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 8, at the Emmanuel Nursing Center Chapel at 2pm. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Barbara Ellen Wiemerslage was born on March 29, 1955 in Waukesha, WI to Ardin and Leora (King) Wiemerslage.  The family moved several times throughout Barb’s life before they settled in Callaway.  On August 20, 1973, Barb was united in marriage to Richard Christensen and to this union four boys were born.  The family made their home in Frazee.  Barb and Richard later divorced; she then moved to various areas before settling in Detroit Lakes.

Barb was a stay-at-home mother until the boys went to school.  Barb worked off and on for the Pirates Den in the Washington Square Mall for over 10 years until their closing. Barb enjoyed crafting, especially plastic canvas, quilting, and spending time with her family.

Barb will be dearly missed by her sons Lowell Christensen, Brian (Kim) Christensen, and John (Tara Sweeney) Christensen; ex husband Richard Christensen; siblings Darlene (Doug) Meyer, Shirley (Steve) Koshatka, Bruce Wiemerslage, Jimmie Wiemerslage, and Lorri (Dean) Peterson; grandchildren Ivan Christensen, Chris Christensen, Jakob Bertek, Blake Christensen, Shana Baity, Taylor Christensen, Sophia and Logon Sweeney,  Jaxon Kohler; and numerous extended family.

She is preceded in death by her parents Ardin and Leora; infant son Arnold; sisters Joyce Groth and Sharon Dee.
