Bernard “Bernie” H. Nugent, 84, Detroit Lakes, MN, passed away on December 15, 2008, in Innovis Hospital, Fargo, ND, as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. A public funeral service is being arranged and will be held at a later date and the updated information may be seen on

Bernard Herman Nugent, known as “Bernie” was born on September 1, 1924 in Moorhead, MN to Irvin and Gertrude (Meyer) Nugent. After serving in the US Army Air Corps in WW II, he returned to Moorhead, where he worked in construction and was a fireman. He married Mary Mae Bellefeuille of Callaway, MN, on June 1

, 1948. From Moorhead the family moved to Hillsboro, ND, and later to Grafton, ND, where Bernie was the proprietor of the local bowling lanes. He was later employed by NorWest Bank of Grafton. After retirement Bernie and Mary moved to Detroit Lakes, MN. In June 2008, family and friends gathered to celebrate their 60
th
wedding anniversary. Over that weekend celebration he shot his fourth hole-in-one.
Bernie was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church of Detroit Lakes, Knights of Columbus, American Legion, and the Detroit Lakes Golf Club. An avid golfer and bowler, Bernie was inducted into the ND Bowling Hall of fame and was one of the founders of the Hillsboro Golf Course.
A devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather, Bernie had a smile and good word for everyone. He made everyone feel good and will be missed by his large family and many, many friends. He was a good, kind, and caring man.
Bernie is survived by his wife, Mary Mae (Bellefeuille) Nugent, Detroit Lakes; children, LeAnne (Tom) Riedman, Lake Park, MN, Laurie (Richard) Percy, Sacramento, CA, Susan (Lou Cerrone) Nugent, Sandwich, MA, Karen Bye, Las Vegas, NV, and Diane (Tim) Ihry, Papillion, NE; four grandchildren, Amy (Mark) Balluff, Chris (Chet) Collins, Elizabeth (Neil) Simmons, and Jay Ihry; and four great grandchildren, Caitlin and Samantha Collins, Tyler and Halle Balluff. Other surviving family members include his sister, Toni Richtman, and brothers and sisters in law Della Bellefeuille, Duane (Marion) Bellefeuille, Dick (Marilyn) Bellefeuille, Keith (Natalie) Bellefeuille, Ken (Lois) Bellefeuille, Jeanette Bellefeuille Jahnke, Danielle (Jim) Dixon, David (Betty) Bellefeuille, and numerous nieces and nephews. Bernie was preceded in death by his parents, brother and sisters Jim (Louise) Nugent, Donna (Obert) Randal, and Olive (Noel) Hastad; and brothers in law Warren and Dennis Bellefeuille and Bill Richtman.
