Bernice Nelson

Bernice Sherwood, known professionally as Babe Nelson, was born August 5, 1939 in rural Rochert, MN to George and Tillie (Soreng) Duffney. She attended District 77 rural school and Detroit Lakes High School. She married Henry Nelson in Detroit Lakes in November, 1956. Known as Babe Nelson, she sang in area night clubs and ball rooms for 15 years. Mr. Nelson preceded her in death. She married Charles Sherwood in 1972. He also preceded her in death. She worked for the Becker County Museum and for the Boys and Girls Club Thrift Store.



Survivors include a daughter, Roxanne Retrtig of Pillager, MN; 4 grandchildren, Lyla Renn, Steve Renn, Luke Nelson, Blake Nelson, 2 brothers, Richard and his wife, Joyce Duffney of Detroit Lakes and Lloyd of Spencer, IA. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Nelson and her parents.
