Bertha Anderson

Bertha M. Anderson, 74, resident of Detroit Lakes, MN, died Saturday, June 28 at Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, July 2 at 11AM in David Donehower Funeral Home, Detroit Lakes. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services. Bertha Mary Walker was born June 21, 1940 in Strathcona, MN to Frank and Lucille "Lucy" (Lane) Walker. She was raised and educated near Greenbush, MN attending Grass Lake Country School near Strathcona. Bertha was always proud of becoming homecoming queen and dairy princess. After school, she married Harold "Jim" LaVine. Together they had three daughters and two sons. After they divorced, Bertha was united in marriage to Michael Anderson. Bertha and Michael had one son. Bertha was an extremely talented self taught musician. She could play any instrument by ear and loved performing with local bands whenever the opportunity arose. Later in life, Bertha met Don Young. They became lifelong companions for over 25 plus years. On February 12, 2014, Don passed away. Bertha had many hobbies. She loved to garden, sew, play music and had a passion for woodworking. She loved working with her hands. She was also a wonderful cook and hostess to family and friends. Bertha will be remembered and missed by her children: Lorie Paulson (Edward Loeberick) of Fargo, Cindy (David) Fredrickson of Minot and Todd (Teresa) Anderson of Blackwell, TX. She is also survived by her mother: Lucille "Lucy" Fagerlie of Detroit Lakes, 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren along with two brothers: Frankie (Pat) Walker of Moorhead and Gene (Linda) Walker of Glyndon and one sister: Marilyn Saulsbury of Moorhead.

She is preceded in death by her father Frank, two sons: Leon Anderson and Lynn Anderson, one daughter: Loretta (Anderson) Tigue, granddaughter: Darla Jean Anderson and special companion: Donald Young.
