Betty Lou (Gjerde) Erickson, 63 of Detroit Lakes, MN passed away on March 13, 2022, at Essentia Health St. Mary's in Detroit Lakes, MN surrounded by loved ones. Betty was born on October 9, 1958, to Jim and Babe (Cogger) Gjerde. She was one of ten children; they were raised in the Strawberry Lake and Callaway area. After receiving her GED, Betty followed a big passion of hers and furthered her education at the DL Tech in a Culinary program. She went on to work at multiple restaurants in the area. Besides her love of cooking, Betty displayed her wonderful heart by taking care of others as a Home Health Aide, including caring for her brother Alan. Betty had three children Aaron, Tim, and Angela. She enjoyed being with her long-time companion Bill Foster, however, her world ultimately revolved around her granddaughter Quinn. Betty and Quinn were the best of friends & whenever anyone would come over, Quinn would always ask when they would leave so it could just be her and Betty. Betty loved taking drives through Tamarac Wildlife Refuge and enjoyed finding treasures at thrift stores with her mother and sisters at a place they were known to call "Diggin', ND" aka Fargo, ND. Betty was best known for making her family's infamous Potato Dumplings and cooking to feed an army of people.
Betty is survived by her children Aaron (Jenny) Erickson, Tim (Tracy) Erickson, Angela (Jos) Erickson, grandchildren Quinn,Daniel, and Brantley, siblings Myrna, Lynda (Willie) Hultin, Lorraine (Duane) Lindsay, Loretta Gjerde, Debbie Mosher, Jerry (Lisa) Gjerde, Alan Gjerde, Sandy (Matt Mess) Olson and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in Death by her parents Jim and Babe Gjerde and sibling Jimmy Carrabou.
The family of Betty Erickson would like to extend their sincere thanks and gratitude to the dedicated team of Essentia Health ICU nurses and Chaplain Kurt Jacobson for their support and care.
