Beverly Nelson

Beverly "Bev" Jean Nelson, age 82, of Detroit Lakes, MN, passed away Monday, November 9, 2015, at the Frazee Care Center, under the care of Red River Valley Hospice, surrounded by her family. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m., Friday, November 13, 2015, at David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes. Burial will be made at Oak Grove Cemetery in Detroit Lakes. Bev was born February 6, 1933, in Fargo, ND, to William and Idun (Raum) Thompson. She grew up in Detroit Lakes where she attended school. She then took a job at Kadletz Laundry in Detroit Lakes where she worked for a number of years. Bev married Donald Nelson on June 16, 1953. The couple made their home on a dairy farm in Frazee where they raised seven children. Bev enjoyed time at home raising her children and helping on the family dairy farm. She enjoyed cooking and baking for her family, and the outdoors, especially tending flower and vegetable gardens, which was a family affair. She also enjoyed listening to country western music and the news on the radio. Bev eventually went back to work and gained employment at Castaway Motel where she did laundry for a number of years, then worked in the laundry department at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes. Bev was a member of First Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes. Bev is survived by six children: Dennis (Linda) Nelson of Frazee, Sharon (Tony) Ring of Fairmont, MN, Steven (Marilee) Nelson of Perham, MN, Sandra (Mark) Hamblin of Frazee, MN, Judy (Terry) Hamilton of Box Elder, MN, and Ronald (Marion) Nelson of Ottertail, MN; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; one sister, Arlette O'Donnell of San Luis Obispo, CA; two brothers: Arville (Rita) Thompson of Frazee and Darold Thompson of Detroit Lakes; step-sister, Elaine Loeffen of Alexandria, MN; step-brother, Robert (Jane) Thompson of Chisholm, MN; along with many nieces and nephews. Preceding Bev in death were her parents, William and Idun Thompson; husband, Donald Nelson; son, Daniel Nelson; and granddaughter, Brenda Nelson.
