Billie Jo Holmer, affectionately known as "Ogichidaakwe," meaning "Warrior Woman" in Ojibwe, passed away on January 25, 2025, at the Sunnyside Care Center in Lake Park, MN. Born on July 26, 1977, to James Fairbanks & Sandra Warren Kier in Detroit Lakes, MN, she spent her life embodying the strength and resilience of her nickname, touching the lives of all who had the privilege to know her.

Billie's journey began in the vibrant community of Detroit Lakes, with a brief stint living in Pennsylvania, but eventually returning to attend Detroit Lakes High School in 1995. She dedicated her professional life to caring for others as a food service provider with Ecumen of Detroit Lakes in the healthcare industry, and she also contributed her talents to the LPA School District and the Lakeshirts Company. Her commitment to service was evident not only in her career but also in the warmth she shared with family, friends, and those in her community.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Billie was a loving mother to her three daughters: Allison [Riley] Olson, Ashley [Collin Wurst] Holmer, and Kayla Holmer. She took immense joy in being a grandmother to her eleven grandchildren, cherishing every moment spent with them. Billie’s love extended to her sister, Samantha Mortenson of Waubun and her brothers, Scott and Wesley Warren of Mahnomen, Preston Kier of Ogema, and Bruce Mortenson of Waverly, along with her stepfather Bruce Mortenson of Waubun. Her significant other, James Kohler, and her two stepsons, Michael Hayes and James Kohler Jr., formed an integral part of her life, along with many cherished nieces and nephews.

A woman of many interests, Billie embraced life’s adventures with enthusiasm. Whether it was horseback riding, hunting, fishing, or capturing memories through photography, she found joy in nature and cherished moments spent surrounded by her loved ones. Her passions reflected a spirit that was vibrant and full of life, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unforgettable memories.

Billie faced an ongoing battle with recurring GIST cancer, showing remarkable strength and courage throughout her journey. Her spirit remained unbroken, inspiring many with her determination and grace.
