Bradley Edward Bergquist, age 61, passed away at home on May 15, 2018 after his battle against cancer. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, May 23 at Augustana Lutheran Church, rural Detroit Lakes, MN. Visitation will begin at 9:00 am and continue until the time of service.
Brad was born November 3, 1956. His parents were Cecil and Marge Bergquist of Detroit Lakes, MN. Brad was very active in 4-H and FFA as a State Ambassador, livestock judging and showing animals at the county fair. Brad graduated from Detroit Lakes High School. Right after high school, Brad joined the Army; he was active for 3 years where he was stationed in Hawaii as a helicopter repairer, followed by 9 years of in-active duty during which time he served several tour duties. Brad lived in Gainesville, FL for several years where he worked and attended Gainesville Community College. He moved back to Detroit Lakes in 1993. Brad married Shirley Hammitt on September 5, 1997 in Las Vegas. Over the years Brad was self-employed as an auto mechanic, computer repairman, gas pump installation/repairs, advertisement sales and growing/selling vegetables. Brad was well known for his sweet corn. Brad’s interests included darts, bowling (high game of 297), hunting, fishing and computer technology. Brad and Shirley went panning for gold in Idaho for their tenth wedding anniversary.
Brad will be remembered and missed by his wife Shirley of Detroit Lakes, MN, two daughters: Sheila (Matt) Baer and Jamie Hammitt, two granddaughters: Summer Keidel and Brandy Thiel, one sister: Lori (Art) Bjorkman, and nieces and nephews.
Brad is preceded in death by his parents Cecil (2010) and Marge (2013).
