Bruce Neal Johnson, 84, passed away Tuesday, November 22, 2023, at home with his family by his side.

He was born in Minneapolis, MN on May 17, 1939, a son of the late Walter and Ruby (Tronsgard) Johnson.  He attended Marshal High School and went on to attend the University of Minnesota, graduating with a degree in business.

In his earlier years, Bruce spent summers with his grandparents on West Battle Lake in their cabin.  He developed a love of fishing that he would carry with him throughout his life.  Bruce took great pleasure in teaching his grandchildren how to catch and clean fish.

Bruce’s love of fishing inspired to invent the “Smart Bobber” which was featured on QVC, along with his business, The Creative Sportsman.  He was an avid sports fan, and particularly loved watching the Gophers and Vikings. He was a kind and loving man and will be sadly missed.

Bruce is survived by his wife, Deb; his son Mikal (Kristy) Johnson; his daughters: Melissa Stapleton, Michelle (Darren) Gigstead and Kari (Jeremiah) Adams.  He also leaves his grandchildren: Angelica, Tyler, Emily, Robbie, Mia, Jacob, Dresden and Greyson; a sister-in-law, Harriet Johnson, as well as his nephews: Lee and his family and Brad.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Walter “Cork” Johnson.

A Celebration of Life for Bruce will be held Saturday, December 2, 2023, from 1 PM to 5 PM at his home (215 2nd Street, Audubon, MN 56511).

The family wishes to thank the staff of Hospice of the Red River Valley for their kind and compassionate care of Bruce.
