Carol Bement

Carol Margaret Johnson was born December 25, 1929 in Mahnomen, MN to Frank and Lena (Fairbanks) Johnson. She was raised and educated in Mahnomen and graduated from Mahnomen Public High School. On September 13, 1949, she was united in marriage to Eugene Bement at St. Joseph's Catholic Church near Beaulieu, MN. They resided in Waubun and started a family. During her younger years, Carol worked at the Viking Snowmobile factory in Waubun and babysat for area families along with watching her grandchildren. Her last job prior to retirement was working at Hillview Care in Waubun. Carol was a wonderful homemaker. Known as "Christmas Carol" to her family, she defined the term Mom. She never missed her children's activities while they were growing up and always offered advice when it was needed. She enjoyed watching professional basketball as well, especially following the Lakers and Bulls. Her lake home on Snider Lake was a popular place for family gatherings, where Carol enjoyed entertaining family, spending time with her grandchildren and playing a game of "whist". Her sayings of "Wait till your Dad gets home" to the later saying of "Why don't you spend the night" are phrases her children will cherish and miss. Carol adored her grandchildren and her welcoming nature will be missed by her entire family. Carol is survived by her children: Cindi Bement of Waubun, Tom Bement of Waubun, Bill (Carol) Bement of Waubun, Laure (Roger) Zima of Ogema, Rich (Jerry Beautler) Bement of Glendale, AZ and Tracey (Dan) Tweeton of Detroit Lakes. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, along with two brothers: Marvin Johnson of Mahnomen and Bill (Cheryl) Johnson of Dillon, MT and special friend: Earl Schlick of Mahnomen.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Eugene, daughter: Merri Bement and brothers: Fancis Johnson, Everette Johnson, John Johnson, Carl Johnson and infant sister: Ione Johnson.
