Carol A. Lormis, 73, was born in Spring Valley, IL on Feb. 26, 1940 and on April 25, 1959 she married the love of her life William (Bill) R. Lormis. She was diagnosed with ALS - Lou Gehrig's disease in April 2013. With her family by her side, Carol passed away on Friday, January 3, 2014 at her home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
She, Bill and their 4 children moved to the Cotton Lake area in August 1972 where they had vacationed for many years and fell in love with the surroundings. She enjoyed raising her children in the lakes area of MN. When her children were all in school, she started a 28 year long career at the Frazee Care Center. Many recognized her for her gentle hands and loving heart when caring for every resident. She and Bill were part of a camping club and spent countless weekends playing cards in various campsites throughout the Midwest. They went on several motorcycle trips to Alaska, and traveled to Texas many winters to spend time with Bill's aunt. She participated in Christian Mother's and enjoyed attending her grandchildren's many activities. Carol is preceded in death by her parents and brother. Her legacy will continue with her husband of 54 years, Bill, daughters Sandi (Ron) Hallstrom of Coon Rapids, Cindy (Bryan) Sandberg of Frazee, and sons Tom (Kathy) Lormis of Detroit Lakes, Jeff (Bobbi) Lormis of Rochert. Her spirit will remain alive in her eight grandchildren: Sarah, Jessica, Christine, Heather (Chris), Cory (Tina), Nathan (Chloe), Brittany and Jacob, and one great-granddaughter, Kiley. She is also survived by two sisters, Marjorie (Evald) Anderson and Kathleen Wallin of Illinois. She will be missed beyond words, but the sweet and happy memories of her will be treasured forever. A memorial service will be held Friday, Jan. 10, 2014 from 4 - 8p at David-Donehower Funeral home in Detroit Lakes. A prayer service will be at 7p. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday Jan. 11, 2014 at 10:30am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frazee with a one hour visitation prior to the service.
