Carol Jean Pearl Nickolauson, 64, rural Osage went home to join the angels on January 14, 2011 at her residence under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. Funeral Services for Carol will be held Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at 2:00 PM in Immanuel Lutheran Church – Shell Lake, rural Osage, MN. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 18, 2011 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM with a 7:00 PM Prayer Service at David Donehower Funeral Home, Detroit Lakes. Carol was born on July 25, 1946 in Parkersburg, West Virginia to Louis and Lillian Meeks SR. In 1951, they moved to Minnesota. She was educated in rural schools, and also in Park Rapids High School.
On May 27, 1963 she was united in marriage to Donald in Snellman, Minnesota. They lived in South Western North Dakota; Chicago, Illinois and returned to Minnesota in 1968. Don and Carol made their home in rural Osage in 1971. She was employed as a seamstress at Finger Hut, Artic Cat and Lakewood Sportswear all in Detroit Lakes. She then went to Heritage Living Center in Park Rapids where she worked as a house keeper and in 1997 Carol received her CNA license. She worked as a CNA until she was forced to retire in 2008 due to failing health.
Carol enjoyed working in the garden, word puzzles, going to the casino, fishing with her husband and spending time with family. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church for many years.
Carol is survived by her loving husband Donald of Osage, Minnesota; three children, Wayne (Donna) Nickolauson of Fergus Falls, MN; Rita (Bob) Wickline of Fergus Falls, MN and Michelle (Les) Goodman of Park Rapids, Minnesota; her parents, Louis and Lillian Meeks SR. of Osage, Minnesota, four brothers; Louis (Elaine) Meeks JR. of Park Rapids, Minnesota; William Meeks SR. of Detroit Lakes; Robert (Tonya) Meeks of Detroit Lakes and Charles (Carolyn) Meeks of Ogema, MN, three sisters; Lois (Lyle) Mastin of Pelican Rapids, MN; Brenda (Robert) Wickline JR. of Detroit Lakes, MN; Bonnie (Anthony) Meeks of Osage, MN along with ten grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Carol was preceded in death by her grandparents; two sisters: Nancy and Mary Lou.
