Clarence Renner

July 9, 1925 — August 17, 2013

Clarence R. "Jack" Renner, 88, Detroit Lakes, MN, died Saturday at the Frazee Care Center. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Friday at the United Methodist Church, Reverend Brenda North, officiating. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery with Military Rites provided by the Lake Region Veterans Honor Guard Friends may call 5:00 – 7:00 Thursday with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at David-Donehower Funeral Home and at the church 1 hour prior to the service on Friday. Clarence Richard Renner, known as "Jack," was born July 9, 1925, in McClusky, ND to John and Pauline (Wagner) Renner. He was raised and educated in McClusky. Jack served with the U. S. Navy 1942 – 1946 during which time he was stationed for over a year in Casablanca. Following his discharge, he studied printing at State School of Science in Wahpeton, ND. He was united in marriage to Ruby Gramm, March 28, 1948, in McClusky. He worked as a printer in Madison, SD 1948 – 1950, in Waukesha, WI, 1950 – 1951 and moved to Detroit Lakes, MN in 1951 where he joined the staff of the Detroit Lakes Tribune. The merger of the Tribune with the Becker County Record brought about the creation of Detroit Lakes Printing where Jack worked until 1983.

Jack enjoyed woodworking in his retirement and built many pieces of heirloom furniture for his family members. He enjoyed fishing, camping and the Minnesota Vikings, when they were good. In his later years, he enjoyed listening to books on tape provided by the MN Association for the Blind. He was a past Admiral of the Northwest Water Carnival, past president of the Eagles, past president of the Detroit Lakes Jaycees, a member of the Detroit Lakes Noon Rotary Club, a past Boy Scout Leader, a long time member of the Detroit Lakes Fire Department, The United Methodist Church, the V.F.W, the American Legion and the Zingers. Survivors include his wife, Ruby of Detroit Lakes, five children: James (Bonnie) of Detroit Lakes, Janet (Bo) Huntley of Audubon, MN, Eileen (Don) Fonder of Jacksonville, FL, Patty (Jerry) Campbell of Blodgett, OR, Rita (Dana) Tomlinson of Detroit Lakes, eight grandchildren: Carl Solum, Gretchen Jorschumb, Kjersten Hunt, Austin Tomlinson, Nick Fonder, Cody Fonder, Lucas Tomlinson and Hallie Renner, six great grandchildren: Katie, Tannor, Rylee, Reese, Stella, Jemma; a sister: Velda Liebig of Novato, CA. Jack was preceded in death by his sister: Emma Couts, and his parents. Memorials are requested to: State Services for the Blind Books on Tape and the Detroit Lakes Fire Department.
