Dale Nelson

Dale A. Nelson, 67, Detroit Lakes, MN, died Friday, August 21, 2015 at Ecumen-Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes. A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, August 28 at 3PM in David Donehower Funeral Home. A gathering of friends and family will be held one hour prior to services. Dale Arthur Nelson was born March 14th 1948 to Caroline Augustive (Asmus) Billing and Wallace Ophsal Nelson. He grew up in rural Fergus Falls MN where he attended country school and later Eisenhower High school. Right out of High School he worked in Pelican Rapids at the Turkey Plant. Shortly thereafter he followed his father and brothers footsteps and began a 45 plus year truck driving career. Dale worked for various trucking firms over the years starting with International Transport (IT) out of Pelican Rapids MN, Golden Ring Trucking out of Fergus Falls and ending his career with Valley Express out of South Dakota. Dale was an owner/operator for a period of time as well, and his favorite tractor of choice was a Kenworth. Dale loved hauling a flatbed trailer from coast to coast, but in later years he ended up hauling a reefer unit. Dale had a great love for music and was an accomplished guitar player in his younger years. Along with music he enjoyed fishing, riding motor cycle, watching Nascar and the Minnesota Twins as well as cooking. His favorite dishes of choice were chicken and potato dumplings.

Dale is survived by his loving mother Caroline Billing of Detroit Lakes, one sister: Trudy (Bradley) Laabs Park Rapids MN. Trudy's Children: Alayna, Hannah, Cynthia, Nolan and Benjamin Briard. Deceased Brother's children: Sheri Nelson (Her children: Kylanda, Katelyn and Kaysha Nelson) Angie (Bradley) Gates (Their Son Nicholas Gates) and three great great nephews.

He is Preceded in death by his grandparents, father: Wallace Nelson, two brothers: Daryl and Duane Nelson and one sister: Janice Nelson.
