Daniel L. Thielen, 50, Rochert, MN, died Saturday, February 7 at his home under the care of his loving family. Mass Of Christian Burial will be 1:00 PM Friday, February 13 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Detroit Lakes, Fr. Jerry Rogers and Msgr. Mike Foltz, officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Callaway, MN. Friends may call 4:00 – 8:00 PM Thursday with a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 6:30 PM and Parish Vigil at 7:00 PM at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Detroit Lakes. The visitation will continue 1 hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.


Daniel Lee Thielen, known as “Dip”, was born March 24, 1958 in Detroit Lakes, MN to Leonard and Estella (Metzger) Thielen. He was Baptized and Confirmed at Assumption Catholic Church in Callaway. Dan attended Callaway Elementary School and is a 1976 graduate of Detroit Lakes High School. Dan was united in marriage to Laura Stone, September 17, 1977 in Underwood, MN. He was a self-employed contractor and worked for many of the area building companies, the last 9 years with Foltz Buildings.


Dan enjoyed hunting, fishing, softball, horseshoes, pool, golf, snowmobiling, skiing, bowling, his dog, Lucky”, concerts, camping, dancing, “Farkel”, making people smile and helping others. He was a member of the Callaway Fire Department, Knights of Columbus and the Elks.


Survivors include three sons, Josh (Maren) of Minnetonka, MN, Casey and Chris both of Rochert, MN; granddaughter, Hailey Thielen; Daniel’s parents, Leonard and Estella Thielen of Detroit Lakes; four sisters and five brothers, Sharon (Dave) Siekas of Brainerd, MN, Marcia (John) Baumgartner of Wheaton, IL, Peter (Jayne) of Detroit Lakes, Mike (Sara) of Detroit Lakes, Pat (Jane) of Lino Lakes, MN, Brenda (Kevin) Willard of Wyoming, MN, Kurt (Winny) of Maple Grove, MN, Mary (Brad) Vonruden of Rochert, Craig (Kathy) of Corcoran, MN, his companion: Cheryl “Annie” Jackson of Ogema, MN and her children.
