Darrel "Sonny" Roger Rheault was born October 27, 1953 at St. Ansgar Hospital in Moorhead, Minnesota, the son of Roger and Darlene (Delp) Rheault. Sonny passed away January 29, 2023, at his home near Vergas, Minnesota.
He grew up in Fargo, ND, graduating from Shanley High School in 1972. Sonny was a very patriotic man and loved the 4th of July. He spent months saving for fireworks and enjoyed spending the holiday with his family and friends.
Sonny worked at Held Beef, Town Hall Bar and Sherman Excavating in West Fargo. He retired from the City of Fargo Sanitation Department. In his retirement years he worked at County 6 Gas & Bait until the time of his death, where he met some true friends.
On February 15, 1980 Sonny married the love of his life Cheri. Sonny had one daughter from a previous marriage. Cheri had four children and together they had five children: Ronauda, Vicki, Renolle, Carmen, Cory. The word “Step” was not in our family vocabulary.
Sonny was an avid sportsman in his younger years and continued that love with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was very proud to teach them how to hunt and fish. He was a very loving and caring man and enjoyed spending time with his family. They were the love of his life! Sonny was a diehard Viking Fan win or lose. Sonny bled purple.
He is survived by his wife: Cheri Rheault; children: Vickie (Lynn) Hersch of Detroit Lakes; Renolle (Andrew) Moltzan of Royalton; Carmen (Brant) Gardner, Nebraska; Cory (Larissa) Rosenberg, Fargo; 15 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; siblings: Mary (Steve) Edner, Marlene Rheault, Marlys Savageau, Sandy (Gary) Nemcek, Tim (Patti) Rheault, Brian (Wendy) Rheault, John (Jackie) Rheault, Ann (Phil) Christlieb; and many nieces and nephews; two of man’s best friends: Balto and Blue.
Sonny was preceded in death by his parents: Roger and Darlene Rheault; daughter: Ronauda; granddaughter: Kayla; nephew: Daniel Nemcek; mother and father-in-law: Clayton and Margaret Rost.
Sonny was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
