Darwin Rader

Darwin D. Rader, age 70, resident of Detroit Lakes, MN, died Thursday, March 19, 2009 at Innovis Health in Fargo, ND. Funeral Services for Darwin will be 11:00 AM Monday, March 23, 2009 at Zion Lutheran Church, Detroit Lakes, Reverend Dan Abrahams officiating.


Visitation will be 2:00 to 4:00 PM Sunday, March 22 at Zion Lutheran Church and will continue one hour prior to services on Monday.


Darwin Darrel Rader was born June 8, 1938 in Galesburg, North Dakota to George and LaVerna (Quast) Rader. At a young age, Darwin and his family moved to rural Frazee, MN. He was baptized August 17, 1938 and confirmed May 25, 1952 at Christ E. Lutheran Church in Spruce Grove Township, rural Frazee. He attended country school near Frazee at District # 52. He graduated from Frazee High School in 1956. On April 11 1957, Darwin enlisted in the United States Army in Fargo, ND. He proudly served his country as a paratrooper for the 101 st Airborne Division. On January 15, 1959, Darwin was Honorably Discharged from the Army at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. On February 27, 1960 he was united in marriage with Jenette Clark at St. John’s Lutheran Church of Corliss Township, rural Frazee. Darwin and Jenette resided in Detroit Lakes where they started their family. Darwin was employed as an accounting technician for the Detroit Lakes Post Office for 34 years before retiring on April 3, 1996. Darwin was a country boy at heart. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, hunting and taking in the quiet nights at his lake home.


Darwin was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the Eagles Club in Detroit Lakes, MN. Along with his outdoor activities, Darwin enjoyed repairing small engines, woodworking, watching the Minnesota Twins, boxing matches, listening to country music and square dancing with his wife and friends.


Darwin will be remembered and missed by his wife, Jenette of Detroit Lakes, MN; four sons, Randy (Chris) Rader of Perham, MN, Don (Jessica) Rader of Detroit Lakes, Steven Rader of Detroit Lakes and Casey Rader of Detroit Lakes; two daughters, Joan Handeland of Montevideo, MN,  and Julie Rader of Dayton, NV. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, DuWayne (Inge) Rader of Menahga, MN; one sister, Karen Renollet of Frazee, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents; and grandparents, Fred and Pauline Rader.
