Daryl Nelson

October 18, 1946 — April 20, 2009

Daryl Wallace Nelson was born October 18, 1946 in Fergus Falls, MN to Wallace and Caroline (Asmus) Nelson. He was baptized and confirmed at Tonseth Lutheran Church in Friberg Township of Ottertail County. Daryl received his education at Roosevelt Senior High in Fergus Falls graduating in 1964. He enlisted into the United States Navy and following his honorable discharge he went to work for Gerald Evenson in Pelican Rapids, MN. On July 5, 1969, he was united in marriage to Madilyn Felber in Fergus Falls. They resided in Fergus Falls where they started their family together. Daryl began trucking for International Transport (IT) and in 1972, purchased his first semi and ran it with International Transport until 1978. He then went on to work for Gabor Trucking later moving into the brokerage department before transferring to Lakes Transportation in Detroit Lakes.


In his spare time Daryl enjoyed hunting, riding and working on motorcycles, watching NASCAR with his brother Dale and spending quality time with his family and friends. He was a member of the Jess-Omundson VFW Post 1676 in Detroit Lakes.


He will be remembered and missed by his two daughters: Sheri Nelson of Ashby, MN and Angie Nelson (Brad) Gates of Singapore along with four grandchildren: Kylanda, Katelyn and Kaysha Nelson and Nick Gates. He is also survived by his mother Caroline Billing of Detroit Lakes, one brother; Dale Nelson of Detroit Lakes one sister; Trudy Briard of Detroit Lakes and three nieces; Alayna, Hannah, Cynthia along with two nephews; Nolan and Benjamin.


He is preceded in death by his father Wallace, one brother Duane Nelson and one sister Janice Nelson.
