Delano L. Jenson, age 80, of Audubon, passed away on Saturday, October 31, 2015 at Ecumen-Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes. A memorial service will be at 11:00 am on Monday, November 16 at Grace Lutheran Church. The visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Delano Lyle Jenson was born along with twin sister, Delores, on September 11, 1935, to Ida (Jensen) and Nile Jenson, in Borup, MN. He grew up in the Twin Valley area and was baptized and confirmed at Wild Rice Lutheran Church in Twin Valley. Del attended school in Twin Valley and in his youth he worked for a farmer in Halstad. Del was united in marriage to Elaine Evanson on October 30, 1954, in Ulen, MN. The young newlywed joined the Air Force on January 19, 1955, and completed basic training in San Francisco. Del served as an Air Policeman in Anchorage, AK and San Antonio, TX. He was honorably discharged on October 7, 1957. After his military service, Del attended school at Interstate Business College, in Fargo. Park Region Oil, in Pelican Rapids, MN, hired Del as a bookkeeper in 1962. As a member of Faith Lutheran Church Del taught Sunday school and served as the financial secretary for the church. Years later, he went to work as a bookkeeper for Wilcox Lumber, in Detroit Lakes, MN. Del became the owner of Del's Champlin and U Haul, in Detroit Lakes, in 1971. He opened Del's Alignment and U Haul in 1984. After decades of working 6 days a week, Del semi-retired and worked for Napa Auto Parts as a parts driver. Del retired in 2005.
Through the years, Del and Elaine lived in Moorhead, Pelican Rapids, and Detroit Lakes where they raised their five children and kept busy with school activities. In 2010, Del and Elaine sold their house in Detroit Lakes and moved to Audubon. Del enjoyed trips to Seattle, WA, Anderson, AK and Wilmington, NC to visit the kids and grandkids.
Del enjoyed fishing and hunting trips with his children, and later with his grandchildren. On game day, the avid Twins and Vikings fan could always be found in front of the TV, and sometimes even at the stadium. Del will be remembered as a kind, soft-spoken, happy-go-lucky, hard-working man who enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. On January 29, 2015, Del entered Ecumen-Emmanuel Nursing Home where he reached his milestone 80th birthday. Under Hospice care, and with his family at his side, Del passed away on Saturday, October 31, 2015. Del is survived by his wife of 61 years, Elaine; five children, Jerome (Linda) Jenson, Moorhead, Bradley (Cindy) Jenson, Brier, WA, Sonda Jenson, Wilmington, NC, Marty (Tammie) Jenson, Detroit Lakes, and Todd (Mary Corson) Jenson, Bemidji; grandchildren, Alissa, Brandon, Peter, Robert, Mark, Shyla and Kendra Jenson, Chantel and Tara Paquette; brothers, Donald (Elaine) Jenson, Twin Valley, and Dennis (Junnell) Jenson, Lake Park; sister-in-law, Rosie Jenson, Twin Valley; brother-in-law, Ralph (Rhoda) Evanson, Hawley; and many nieces and nephews.
