Della Stiyer

February 20, 1923 — November 30, 2007

Della R. Stiyer, 84, Ogema, MN died Friday at St. Mary's Regional Health Center in Detroit Lakes under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, December. 5 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Callaway, MN, Pastor Del Stohs, officiating. Interment will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Richwood, MN.



Friends may call 4:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Callaway.



Della Rachel Yoder was born February 20, 1923 in Ladysmith, WI to Jacob and Nettie (Forner) Yoder. She moved with her family to Wheaton, MN at age 6 and to Sugar Bush Township, rural Ogema in 1946. She attended teacher training and taught in a rural Wheaton, MN school for a year prior to marrying Louis, also known as Lee, Stiyer December 24, 1943 in Wheaton. They operated a farm in Sugar Bush Township their entire married life. Lee died in 2000.



Della was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and served as the church Secretary Treasurer for many years. She taught Sunday School, Bible School and Release Time Classes, was a member of the Strawberry Lake Mennonite Church sewing circle and the Mary Martha Society at Immanuel Lutheran. She enjoyed time with her grand and great grandchildren, her sewing, embroidering, gardening, flowers, writing poetry, nature walks, Cryptoquip puzzles and Kentucky Fried Chicken.



Survivors include sons, Archie (Rebel) Stiyer of Callaway, MN, Kent (Cathy Willett) of Ogema, MN; daughters, Carolyn (Gary) Heitkamp of Rochert, MN, Rita (Craig) Bartelson of Sidney, MT, Diane (Larry) Rumery of Ogema, MN; 18 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Della was preceded in death by two sons, John and David; two sisters, Ellen Jenkins (Della's twin) and Nettie Pederson; four brothers, John, Marvin, Harold, also known as Dick, and James.
