Dolores Belz

August 23, 1919 — April 22, 2009

Dolores Lucille Anderson was born near Buxton, ND on August 23, 1919 to Arthur and Anna (Utz) Anderson. She was raised near Luce, MN and attended rural country school. In 1940, Dolores was united in marriage with Harold Belz at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Frazee, MN. Harold worked for the railroad which allowed them to experience life in several small towns in North Dakota and Minnesota. Harold and Dolores retired in Detroit Lakes and shortly thereafter, Dolores began her volunteer work. She was instrumental in creating and organizing the Becker County Housing and Redevelopment Authority (HRA) in Detroit Lakes. From 1978-1987, she served on the board of directors for Lakeland Mental Health, The Area Aging Council and the Becker County Council for the Handicapped. She was a former member of the Detroit Lakes Police Commission and former senior board advisor for Norwest Bank along with the Becker County Nutrition Program. Her community involvement impacted many people in the lakes area, making lives easier to live with the programs she so strongly believed in. In 1990, Dolores proudly accepted the Becker County Outstanding Senior Citizen Award. Throughout her life, she enjoyed following politics often voicing her concerns to area representatives. In addition to her activities she enjoyed sewing, and cooking (especially her “Sticky Buns”) but most importantly spending time with her children and grandchildren.

She will be remembered and missed by her children: Mary (Peter) Janzen of Winnipeg, Manitoba, James (Linda) Belz of Edmonds, WA, William J. (Nicole) of Maple Grove, MN and Joseph (Mary) Belz of Pelican Rapids, MN. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Jodine (Chad), Paul, Sara, Ashley and Amanda and six great-grandchildren along with one sister Louise Colombero of California

She is preceded in death by her husband Harold (1987), two children Michael and Kathryn and two infant children.
