Donald Briese

Donald Arthur Briese was born to Arthur H. and Bernice (Kever) Briese on the 28th of August, 1930 in Wells, MN. He attended school in Fairmont, MN and served with the Fifth Army Quarter Master Corps at Ft. Sheridan, IL. He completed his military service as a mess sergeant with K-Company, 135th Infantry, 47th Division at Camp Rucker, AL. Donald was united in marriage to Ruth Marilyn Baird April 10, 1954 at the United Methodist Church Parsonage in Stillwater, MN. They lived in Fairmont, MN where he was a baker until 1955 when they moved to Cloquet, MN where he was employed as a forest ranger. In 1956 they moved to McGrath and, in 1960 to a home on Mille Lacs Lake near Isle, MN. They moved to Floodwood, MN in 1961 where they made their home until transferring to Grand Maris, MN in 1975. Following two heart attacks in 1979, Don transferred to the Forest Service Cartographer Section in Grand Rapids, MN. He retired in 1986 and, in 1988, they moved to a home on Lake Buchanan near Ottertail, MN. They moved to Detroit Lakes, MN in 1995. Ruth died in 2006. Don enjoyed genealogy, traveling and history, especially the histories of Germany and Poland. Survivors include 3 children: Marilyn (Tom) Erickson of Hermosa, SD, Duane (Sandy) Briese of Galesville, WI, Joan (Ron) Gervais of Grand Maris, MN. 2 grandchildren: Donald (Chelsea) and Carissa; 3 sisters: Myrna Thompson of Shakopee, MN, Carole Nelson of Eden Prairie, MN, Donna Weston in Florida.
