Donald W. DeGroat, age 69, formerly of Uxbridge, MA., died suddenly Tuesday April 3, 2012 at Harrington Healthcare in Webster, MA. Donald was born on May 29, 1942 in White Earth to Lester and Francis (Jackson) DeGroat. He attended school in White Earth and after graduation he joined the US Navy where he proudly served our country as a Machinist Mate during the Cuban Missile Crisis. For his service he received the National Defense Service Medal. Don was an active member and former commander of the VFW Post 1385 in Uxbridge, MA. At the time of his death he was employed as an electroplater at New Method Plating in Worcester, MA. Don is survived by a daughter, Deborah M. Stewart and her companion Raymond Bilodeau; a son-in-law, Bryan Stewart, a granddaughter, Kelly (MaryAnn) Stewart, a grandson Bryan Stewart Jr; four great-granddaughters whom he loved and cherished as well as four brothers, Lenny Potter White Earth, Frank Miller Detroit Lakes, Bill Miller White Earth, and Alan DeGroat Detroit Lakes and four sisters; Jodi (Roger) Wheeler Detroit Lakes, Donna (Leon) Kohler Audubon, Debra DeGroat Detroit Lakes, Connie Engebretson Detroit Lakes, two step-brothers; Darrell (Carol) Clark and Glen Clark, both of Lake Park, MN. as well as many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his father Lester, mother Francis, a step-mother Josephine (Wilson) DeGroat (2001), His beloved wife of 37 years, Carol (Lyness) DeGroat (2001), daughter Sherry Ann DeGroat (1964), son Johnny DeGroat (2001) a brother Paul DeGroat (2007) and a sister Beverly Lenz (2005). His memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 14 at 10:00 am in West Sutton Cemetery, West Sutton Road in Sutton, MA. A local memorial service will be held at a later date.
