Donald Engleson

Donald F. Engleson, 86, Detroit Lakes, MN, died Sunday, February 23, 2014 at Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes. Graveside services will be 9:30 AM Friday, MAY 2, 2014 at Bakke Lutheran Cemetery in rural Detroit Lakes with a Memorial Service to follow at 10:00 AM Friday at Bakke Lutheran Church, Reverend Ann Newgard-Larson, officiating. Military rites will be provided by the Lake Region Veterans Honor Guard. Friends may call 1hour prior to the service at the church. Donald Florian Engleson was born September 1, 1927 in Milan, MN to Edward and Ales (Torgeson) Engleson. He was raised in Rochert, MN and is a 1944 graduate of Frazee (MN) High School. Following graduation, he served with the U. S. Army. Following his discharge, he returned to Rochert, MN prior to moving to Alaska. He then moved to Hibbing, MN where he drove a Euclid for Hanna Mining Company. Don was united in marriage to Dorene Bertilson July 19, 1952 in Hibbing. They later moved to Park Rapids, MN where Don was a carpenter and did siding installation. They moved to Salem, OR, Mesa, AZ and then to Detroit Lakes, MN. Don enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, making knives, reloading bullets, reading and playing guitar with the Old Timers Country Bunch at area nursing homes and senior events. Survivors include his wife, Dorene of Detroit Lakes, two sons and two daughters: Gary (Joen) of Snoqualmie, WA, Bradley (Terri) of Henderson, TN, Dawna Engleson of Salem, OR and Kathryn (Bruce) Miller of Salem, OR; 14 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren; "other" son; Romain VanSteirtegem from Wetteren, Belgum, a sister: Lois Freithem of Spokane, WA and a brother: Roger (Becky) Engleson of Fergus Falls, MN.
