Donald Gravelle

Don was born July 19, 1947 to John and Eleanor (Olson) Gravelle in Detroit Lakes, MN. He was the eldest of 3 children. He grew up and attended school in Detroit Lakes, graduating with the class of 1966. Following high school, Don operated his own business, Gravelle Construction until he was drafted into the United States Army in 1967. He served in the Vietnam War until his honorable discharge in 1968. He then went on to serve in the United States National Guard specializing in survival training. In 1978, Don was granted the opportunity to work as the construction supervisor for Ramp Co. Construction Company. This job took him to Saudi Arabia where he lived and worked until 1985. Don then returned to Detroit Lakes, where he was united in marriage to Vicki A. Newman on November 25, 1985. The couple made their home in Detroit Lakes and Don continued to run his business, Gravelle Construction. He remained in business until his health made him unable. Don was a true Minnesota man and loved the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing the area lakes, sailing, deer hunting in the fall, and cross county skiing and snowmobiling during the winter months. He also enjoyed dancing during his younger years. Don was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes. He is survived by his son, Lance (Lisa) Gravelle of Stacy, MN; daughter, Sheri (David) Hamiga of Fargo, ND; 2 step-sons: Jon (Michelle) Engum and Wade (Nancy) Engum both of Detroit Lakes; 10 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; 1 brother, Kenny (Toni) Gravelle of Salem, OR; and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and his youngest brother, Craig.
