Donald (Don) Marvin Nickolauson, age 71, went to his Lord and his loving wife on April 2nd, 2015, surrounded by his loved ones at Sanford (Fargo, North Dakota). A funeral service will be at 11:00am on Wednesday, April 8th at Immanuel Lutheran Shell Lake Church in Osage. A visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm with a prayer service at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, April 7th at the David Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes and will continue one hour prior to the funeral service at the church on Wednesday. The interment will be 11:00 am on Saturday, April 18 at Immanuel Lutheran Shell Lake Church Cemetery in Osage. Don was born December 16, 1943 in Detroit Lakes, MN; to Gustaf and Hazel E. (Clark) Nickolauson. Don received his education in country school, Frazee High School and Lutheran Seminary St. Paul. Don honorably served with the U.S. Navy and was a member of the American Legion Post 212 of Park Rapids, Minnesota. He lived and worked on his father's farm until May 27, 1963 when he was united in marriage to his sweetheart; Carol Meeks at Snellman, Minnesota. They made their home in south-western North Dakota, Chicago and returned to Minnesota in 1968. Don worked one year on road construction in the Twin Cities. He then went to work at Snappy until 1986, when his health failed him. Donald began his career in the Ministry in 1989 and served at many different places: Frazee Care Center, Frazee; Heritage Living Center, Park Rapids; Clay County Jail, Moorhead; Becker County Jail, Detroit Lakes; many area churches, including his own parish, and also in Wahpeton, North Dakota. He also taught release time at Bethlehem Lutheran in Frazee and actively served his family up until the time of his death. Don loved to fish; although he was never good at it, he still loved the sport. He fished with his wife, friends and other family members. Don also loved camping, four-wheeling, exploring, and having coffee with his neighbors. Donald is survived by his three children, Wayne (Donna) Nickolauson of Fergus Falls, Minnesota; Rita (Bob) Wickline of Fergus Falls, Minnesota; and Michelle (Les) Goodman of Park Rapids, Minnesota; ten grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Don was preceded in death by his precious wife, Carol; his parents, and four brothers.
