Donald William Young, born September 20, 1922 to William and Val (Solberg) Young in Sparta, WI. Donald passed away peacefully on February 12, 2014 at home. Funeral services for Don will be Saturday, February 15 at 2:00 pm at David Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Officiating will be Pastor Dale Robins. Interment will be held in East Christiania Cemetery, Eureka Township near Lakeville, MN.
Don served with the United States Army and after his honorable discharge, he spent many years traveling and working for Northern States Power Company until his retirement in 1987.
Don loved his children with his whole heart; he enjoyed writing stories and often sent them to the Fargo Forum. He was always busy at his desk and loved drawing pictures and giving them to his friends. During his younger years, Don enjoyed restoring old tractors. A man of compassion, kindness and an animal and nature lover, Don will be remembered and missed by his loving, longtime companion: Bertha Anderson of Detroit Lakes, two daughters Linda (Don) Peterson of Riverside, WA, Nancy (Gary) Gunderson of Lakeville, MN, and son Terry of Reno, NV. Also surviving Don are four grandchildren, five great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Don is preceded in death by loving wife of 42 years, Ethel, and four brothers: Vere, Bob, Curtis, Jackie and one sister, Sally.
He touched many lives and will be sorely and sadly missed.
