Doris M. Carlson, 93, Hopkins, MN, formerly of Audubon, MN, died Sunday, February 12 at St. Augustana Chapel Nursing Home in Hopkins. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, February 18 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in rural Audubon, MN, Pastor Paul Peterson, officiating. Interment will be in St. Peter's Lutheran Church Cemetery. Friends may call at the church 1 hour prior to the service on Saturday. Doris Marie Carlson was born April 22, 1918 in Arthur, ND to Isaac and Elaine (Schur) Roberts. She was raised and educated in Arthur, graduating from Arthur High School in 1936. She attended practical nurses training in Bismarck, ND. While continuing her training at Ambrose, ND, she met Bruce Carlson who was a member of the Ambrose school faculty. Doris and Bruce were united in marriage June 7, 1940 in Fargo, ND. They made their home in Linton, ND and, while Bruce served with the US Army, she lived with her parents in Fargo. Following his discharge, they returned to Linton. After Bruce completed his qualification to become a Superintendent of Schools, they made their home in First Oilmont, MT, Columbus, ND, and Velva, ND prior to coming to Audubon in 1959. They moved to Sacred Heart, MN in 1969 and, following Bruce's retirement, they returned to their home on Cormorant Lake in rural Audubon. Bruce died in 1982. Doris enjoyed cross stitching, crafts, cooking,( especially her families favorite potato pancakes) baking, and playing an active role in school and church communities cooking, and making the gravy for the St. Peter's church dinners. Survivors include two daughters: Cindy (Dennis) Shepherd of Wheatridge, CO, Gayle Specht of Buffalo, MN, a son: Loren Carlson of St. Louis Park, MN; eight grandchildren: Lori Shepherd, Chrissy (Jeff) Wasinger, Debbie (Tim) Wolfe, Denise Specht, Becky (Mike) Bohnenstingl, Amy (Ryan) Anderson, Kraig Carlson and Sally (Dan) Larson; seven great-grandchildren: Mason and Clara Wolfe, Michael Bohnenstingl, Tyler Anderson, Robert and Tiana Wasinger and Owen Waldo. One sister: Jean Welsh of Seattle, WA. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers: Bud and Ren and two sisters: Eleanor and Addie.
