Doris Jane Porter was born February 16, 1921 in Pierre, South Dakota to Frank and Marie (Zacharias) Porter. Jane was raised and educated in Pierre graduating in 1939. She was united in marriage to George L. Walters on February 21, 1942 in Pierre. They resided in Watertown, SD, Mobridge, SD and Minot, ND before moving to Detroit Lakes, MN in 1974. Jane soon became active in the Detroit Lakes community volunteering her time with area events and assisting with her church whenever possible. Jane had a zest for life; she always carried a smile and had a great sense of humor. She thoroughly enjoyed living around the lakes area where she and George where able to go camping with friends. Jane also enjoyed cross stitching, golfing, bowling, cross country skiing, trips to the casino and sharing stories with her girlfriends over a cup of coffee. George passed away in March of 2002.
Jane will be remembered and missed by her daughter, Susan Turney of Rosemount, MN and one sister; Phyl Dennison of Santa Rosa, CA. She is also survived by two nephews and four nieces.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband George and sister Tootie Matyasi.
