Dorothy Baker

Dorothy M. Baker, age 82, resident of Callaway, MN, died Friday, October 10, 2008 at Viking Manor Nursing Home in Ulen, MN.




Mass of Christian Burial for Dorothy will be held Tuesday, October 14, 2008 at 11:00 AM in St. Benedict’s Catholic Church of White Earth, MN.  Visitation will be held Monday, October 13, 2008 at David-Donehower Funeral Home from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM and continuing at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM.  Visitation will also continue one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.




Dorothy Mae Daniel was born December 11, 1925 in Ray, ND to Joseph and Rose (Kiffmeyer) Daniel.  She was raised and educated in Ray, graduating from Ray High School in 1943.   After school she worked in the ammunition dump in Bremerton, WA during WWII.  She returned to North Dakota and married Floyd Olson on June 12, 1945.  Floyd died September 17, 1951.  Dorothy married John C. Baker on January 19, 1953.  They farmed near Frazee, MN for a short time until moving to Twin Haven Mink Ranch.  They later moved to Babbitt, MN where John worked in the mines.  They relocated to their farm in Callaway, MN where Dorothy worked at Erie 34 Club in Detroit Lakes before opening Lakes Upholstery Shop of Detroit Lakes.  After many years at the shop, Dorothy semi-retired and began J&B Dairy with her son Bob and his wife Sue, and later Ma & Pa’s Roadside Market with her daughter Cheryl and her husband Larry. Dorothy and John started a shuttle service to the Shooting Star Casino in their later years.   In her spare time Dorothy enjoyed crafting, sewing and crossword puzzles but most importantly, spending time with her children and their families.


Dorothy will be remembered and missed by her daughter Kathy (Chuck) Sjostrom of Fargo, ND, Bob (Sue) Baker of Callaway, MN and Cheryl (Larry) Hoban of Ogema.  She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, two brothers; Cecil Daniel of Williston, ND, Francis Daniel of St. Paul, MN and one sister; Sara Barstad of Tioga, ND.


She is preceded in death by her parents, 1 st husband Floyd Olson, 2 nd husband John Baker, granddaughter; Virginia Marie Baker, three brothers; Roman, Art and Edmund and one sister Martha Daniel
