Dorothy was born December 4, 1922 in Wolf Point, MT to George and Sigrid (Dokken) Overby. She was raised and educated in Plentywood, MT, attending a small country school. Dorothy graduated from Plentywood High School in 1940. She attended Montana State Normal College in Dillon, MT, graduating with her teaching certificate. During WWII, Dorothy was united in marriage to Junior Ray Conger on December 27, 1944. After the war, Dorothy and Ray farmed for 13 years in the Plentywood area. After leaving the farm, Ray's career in insurance brought them to several different communities over the years. They lived in Missoula, MT, Coeur d'Alene, ID, Great Falls, MT and again back to Missoula. Throughout this time, Dorothy was the quintessential homemaker. An active mom, Dorothy volunteered her time with her children's school activities along with her church where she shared her musical talents directing church choirs. She was a frequent soloist for many events throughout her life. Dorothy was proud to sing with the Great Falls Symphony Orchestra and Choir for several years. In May of 1995, Dorothy and Ray moved to Detroit Lakes starting a new chapter in their life. Avid sports fans, Dorothy and Ray had followed the University of Montana Grizzlies, particularly the Lady Griz Basketball team, often traveling to sporting events to cheer them on. After the move they eagerly supported the NDSU Bison, Concordia College Cobbers and Detroit Lakes Lakers. A proud Norwegian, she was an active member of the Sons of Norway in Missoula, and then in Detroit Lakes. While living in Detroit Lakes, Dorothy and Ray supported a wide variety of causes, but particularly First Lutheran Church. Dorothy served on the building committee for the Christ First Addition; she enjoyed working with the quilters, leading bible study and singing in the Jubilate Choir and listening to the "Alleluia Ringers". Dorothy lived a life centered on Christ; she loved her family, especially her grandchildren. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Dorothy will be remembered and missed by her children: Madalyn Sukke and Dorian Conger (Jean Greenland), grandchildren: Allison (Jarad) Mahlen, Erik Sukke (David Saunders), Fallon Conger (Jessica King), Lafe Conger and Hayley Conger. She is also survived by one great grandchild: Tru Mahlen.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband J. Ray Conger, siblings: Magna (Elmer) Sondeno, John (Ella) Overby and Gertrude (Austin "Chris") Christiansen.
