Dorothy E. DeGroat, 85, resident of Ogema, MN, died Thursday, August 14 at her residence surrounded by her family and under care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Funeral Services for Dorothy will be held Tuesday, August 19 at 11AM in Faith Lutheran Church- Detroit Lakes. Visitation will be held Monday, August 18 from 5PM-7PM at David Donehower Funeral Home- Detroit Lakes. Visitation will also continue one hour prior to services on Tuesday at the church. Interment will be held in Bethel Lutheran Cemetery, White Earth. Dorothy Elizabeth Scheuring was born September 2, 1928 in Washington, DC to John and Margaret Scheuring. She grew up in Washington and after school starting working at a drive up restaurant. While she was working she met her future husband Glenn. On January 6, 1951 Glenn and Dorothy were united in marriage at Ft. Meyers, VA. In 1955 they adopted their son Robert. In 1959 they adopted their daughter Eleanor. In 1964 they moved to a farm between Ogema and Callaway. After selling the farm they moved into Ogema in 1970. Dorothy was an amazing seamstress. Throughout the years she made many quilts and clothing for her family. She enjoyed getting together with her family, attending pow wows, cooking and dancing. Glenn Passed away in 2011. Dorothy had a tremendous heart for others. Her giving nature and kind spirit will be missed by all who knew her.
Dorothy is survived by her children: Robert DeGroat of Ogema and Eleanor DeGroat of Waubun, three grandchildren: Ryan DeGroat of Ogema, Tyler DeGroat of Mahnomen and Haley DeGroat-Turner of Waubun along with two great-grandchildren: Chasidy DeGroat and Lilliauna DeGroat and two sisters: Audrey Lewis of Winchester, VA and Joan Scheuring of Rialto, CA.
