Dorothy Duel

Dorothy Mae Duel, 95, Detroit Lakes, MN, died Sunday, April 19, 2015 at Essentia Health-St. Mary's in Detroit Lakes. Funeral Services for Dorothy will be held Thursday, April 23 at 1PM in David Donehower Funeral Home. Visitation will be held one hour prior. Interment will be held in Lakeside Cemetery, Frazee, MN. Dorothy was born March 6, 1920 in Hobert Township, near Vergas, MN to Enos and Nora (Mayfield) Allen. Growing up in the Frazee/Vergas area, she met the love of her life, Henry Duel when she was 15. Dorothy and Henry married a year later in 1936. The couple had six children, they then moved to Detroit Lakes in 1964. Dorothy was a homemaker and devoted wife. She was a wonderful seamstress who made all three of her daughters' wedding dresses and one of her granddaughters. She loved flowers of every kind and in her later years she enjoyed working on puzzles as a hobby. Henry passed away in 1984 and Dorothy stayed in her own home until 2011 which is when she moved into Lamplighter Manor in Detroit Lakes.

Dorothy is survived by her five children: Gloria (Phil) Tasto of Detroit Lakes, Donnie (Virginia) Duel of Sauk Rapids, Lorraine (Stan) Pazdernik of Mahnomen, Kennie Duel of Detroit Lakes and Linda (Neil) Lind of Detroit Lakes. In addition she is survived by 11 grandchildren: Barb (Larry) Johnson of Detroit Lakes, Shelley (Dave Haman) Duel of New York Mills, Monte (Tracey) Duel of Pelican Rapids, Cathie (Glenn) Ahrensfeld of Sartell, Steffani (Chris) Thiesen of Sauk Rapids, Mark Tasto of Detroit Lakes, Tim (Nicole) Duel of Sauk Rapids, Dennis Pazdernik of Mahnomen, Peggy (Rob) Balstad of Red Lake Falls, Tina (Tom) Duel of Chisago City and Rheanna (Enrique) Lind of Detroit Lakes along with 18 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren and one niece and two nephews. Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, her one and only love Henry, one son: Larry Duel, one daughter-in-law: Mary Johnson Duel and her sister: Pearl Berger-Hazelton.
