Dorothy Lachowitzer

Dorothy M. Lachowitzer, 83, Detroit Lakes, died Thursday, September 17, 2015 at Ecumen- Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes. Funeral Services for Dorothy will be held Wednesday, September 23 at 1PM in Grace Lutheran Church, Detroit Lakes. Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 22 at David Donehower Funeral Home from 5PM-7PM with a Prayer Service at 7PM. Visitation will also continue at the church one hour prior to services. Dorothy Mae Becker was born December 6, 1931 on the family farm near Callaway, MN to Henry and Ida (Platten) Becker. She grew up on the family farm and attended school until 9th grade. In 1951, Dorothy was united in marriage to Clarence Vange in Detroit Lakes. They made their home near Flom, MN before moving to Hunter, ND to operate a dairy and ag farm. Dorothy and Clarence divorced in 1972. On April 20, 1989 Dorothy was united in marriage to Joe Lachowitzer and they made their home in Detroit Lakes. Joe passed away June 23, 2002. Dorothy was a hard worker throughout life. Early on during her working years, she took care of the dairy cattle and worked in the fields. She later started with Swift's Turkey Plant in Detroit Lakes and retired after 20 years of employment. During her retirement she worked for five years as a greeter at Walmart. Dorothy enjoyed getting together with family whenever possible. Her family were the most important aspect of her life. She will be remembered as a devoted and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Dorothy enjoyed visiting with people in the community and always had a special place in her heart for animals, especially Great Danes.

Dorothy is survived by her children: Lawrence (Corrine) Vange of Detroit Lakes, Donna Vange of West St. Paul, MN, and Irene (Dan) Hagen of Detroit Lakes. Step-children: Dennis (Sue) Lachowitzer of Detroit Lakes, Larry Lachowitzer of Audubon, James Lachowtizer of Detroit Lakes and Jane Lachowitzer of Tucson, AZ along with 17 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Joe (2002) along with two sisters and one brother: Margret Jenkins, Frances Jensen and Jim Becker.
