Douglas W. Bissell, 81, Detroit Lakes, MN, died Friday, September 18 at Essentia Health-St. Mary's Hospital, Detroit Lakes. Memorial Service for Doug will be held Monday, September 28 at 11AM in Kingdom Hall in Detroit Lakes. A gathering of friends and family will be held one hour prior to services. Douglas William Bissell was born November 18, 1933 in Baldwinsville, NY to Shannon and Ahlene (Harrig) Bissell. He was raised and educated in Baldwinsville. Doug enlisted with the US Navy in 1953 and retired from the Navy in January of 1973. Following his honorable discharge, Doug lived in California working in an RV Repair shop and also as a crane operator for a construction company. On August 3, 1981 Doug was united in marriage to Maydean (Holm) Haugen. They made their home in California before moving to Lake Park in 1990. Doug worked for one year at Wold's RV and later drove bus for Schultz Garage for two years before retiring due to health reasons. Doug was a talented woodworker. Over the years he made many unique birdhouses and other wood crafts. He also enjoyed spending time in the garden and always making sure his yard was neatly groomed. Doug is survived by his wife, Maydean of Detroit Lakes, two daughters: Diane and Rhonda, three step-children: Glenn Haugen of Imperial Beach, CA, Laurie (Tony) Kubic of Johnstown, PA and Yvonne Arce of Imperial Beach, CA along with six grandchildren and one great-grandson. He is also survived by one brother: Arthur Bissell of Syracuse, NY. He is preceded in death by his parents along with one brother and one sister.
