Douglas Johnson

November 11, 1955 — August 6, 2013

Douglas Lee Johnson was born November 13, 1955 in Detroit Lakes to Donald E. and Carol E (Omundson) Johnson. He was raised and educated in Detroit Lakes graduating from Detroit Lakes High School in 1974. On August 16, 1975, Doug was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Vikki Jo Johnson in Trinity Lutheran Church, Detroit Lakes. After school, Doug worked on the family farm and at Surge, installing dairy equipment. In 1981, Doug and Vikki Jo managed a dairy farm in Perham, MN for an investment group. They operated the farm for five years before moving to Dent, MN, managing another dairy farm. In 1989, they purchased a home on Lake Eunice near Detroit Lakes and continued in the dairy business until 1994. It was at this time, Doug started a business doing home construction. An accomplished wood worker, Doug completed many beautiful pieces of furniture that his family will enjoy for years and years to come. If Doug thought of an idea, he would accomplish it. He had a remarkable gift for conversation. He enjoyed visiting with anyone, anywhere. Doug loved to hunt and had a passion for pheasant hunting. He enjoyed listening to music, especially Merle Haggard. He led by example and instilled in his children hard work and love for family. Doug was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who adored his grandchildren. His shared wisdom and sense of humor will be remembered and missed. Doug is survived by his wife, Vikki Jo of Detroit Lakes, his children: Marshall Lee Johnson (Lisa Haugen) of Lake Park, Jesse (Lacey) Johnson of Audubon, Casey Johnson of Detroit Lakes and Karli (Beau) Kirkwood of Lake Park. He is also survived by his nine grandchildren, mother: Carol Johnson of Detroit Lakes, his siblings: Stephen "Doc" Johnson of Detroit Lakes, JuliAnne (Nathan) Skrove of Northfield, MN, James "Jimmy" Johnson of Detroit Lakes, Dan "Scruff" (Michelle) Johnson of Detroit Lakes and Jeanne Johnson Bowden (Nevin Tergesen) of Geneseo, ND and many nieces and nephews.
