Duane was diagnosed with lung cancer on December 17 th . He spent his final three weeks enjoying his last Christmas with his family, watching his last WHS basketball game and knowing the love of his close family and friends who visited, sent cards and called. Duane left this world knowing how deeply he was loved by his family, friends, neighbors and his community.

Duane was born on February 8, 1938 to Herman and Ione Jasken of Ogema. He was a lifelong resident of the family farm. Duane attended the local country school, had graduated from St. Benedict’s Mission School; and then from Waubun, MN High School in 1956. Following high school Duane worked at the family farm and also in Illinois with friends. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1960. Duane graduated with honors from the US Naval Training Center in Illinois in 1961. He was selected Honorman of his company. Duane served on the USS Springfield; stationed in the Mediterranean Sea. After an honorable discharge from the Navy, Duane purchased the family farm from his parents. Duane met and married Patricia Fielder of Eagle Butte, SD in 1965. Patricia died in 1966. Duane farmed, logged and ranched for many years. He continued ranching and raising beef cattle until his passing.

Duane enjoyed old cars, especially his 1964 Mustang that he had restored. He enjoyed the good company of friends and neighbors who stopped by daily to visit. He was blessed to be healthy, active and young at heart. Most of all, Duane enjoyed the company of his grandchildren. One of Duane’s favorite things was watching Tera’s basketball or fast-pitch games.
