Duane Ulschmid

Duane Leo Ulschmid, Age 84 of Detroit Lakes formerly of Fargo, ND passed away on Tuesday, March 10 at Sanford Hospice House in Fargo, ND

Duane was born March 11, 1935 in Frazee, MN to Frank and Ann (Joachim) Ulschmid.  He graduated from Frazee High School with the Class of 1954.  Following graduation, he worked on the family farm and was active in the Army Reserves.

Duane married Winnie Flatau in 1959 and they moved to Fargo in 1965 where they lived for 35 years before moving to Pelican Lake.  During that time, he worked at Siouxland Dressed Beef Company in West Fargo for 14 years and then at Anheuser-Busch in Moorhead for 21 years before retiring in 2001.  Duane enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, sports—especially the MN Twins.

He is survived by Winnie, his wife of 60 years; children, Carey (Marlene) Ulschmid, Carmen (Mike) Behm, Kim (Tim) McIlwain, Keela Cottew and Kyle (Nora Gale) Ulschmid; 13 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; brother Eugene (Connie); sisters Virginia (Robert) Thompson and Rose Pitzel; along with many other family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by brothers Wilfred and Peter, sisters Teresa Necham and Geraldine Schmit and son-in-law Roger Cottew.
