Eddie Enger

Eddie H. Enger, 90, Rochert, MN died Monday, January 18 at his residence surrounded by his family and under care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. Memorial Services for Eddie will be held Friday, January 22 at 11AM in David Donehower Funeral Home, Detroit Lakes. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Eddie Harold Enger was born June 1, 1925 in Tansem Township, rural Clay County to Henry and Inga (Bekkerus) Enger. He attended school near Barnesville, MN. After school he worked on his father's farm. On January 2, 1945 Eddie enlisted with the United States Marine Corp and served his country during WWII. He was honorably discharged on December 12, 1946. After his discharge, Eddie worked and took flying lessons at the Detroit Lakes Airport. In 1950 he moved to Dilworth, MN. On January 15, 1950 Eddie was united in marriage to Charlotte Stearns in Detroit Lakes. They lived in Dilworth from 1950-1984 where Eddie was employed with American Crystal Sugar. While living in Dilworth Eddie served on the Dilworth School Board, Dilworth Fire Department and a board member at Dilworth Lutheran Church. He was also active with the local Boy Scouts and coaching youth baseball. After retirement Eddie started Ed's River Run, an inner tube renting business on the Otter Tail River outside of Detroit Lakes. Eddie loved being outdoors. He enjoyed fresh water and saltwater fishing along with hunting. He especially enjoyed times spent deer hunting with his sons and grandsons. He was devoted husband, father and grandfather and will be dearly missed by his family. Eddie is survived by his wife of 66 years, Charlotte of Rochert, MN, four children: Glenn (Melissa) Enger of Dickinson, TX, Gregg Enger of Dilworth, Gale (Kurt) Buckley of Ulen and Gary (Lisa) Enger of Dilworth. In addition he is survived by four grandsons: Ben Garlie, Jeremiah Enger, Zachary Enger and Jacob Enger, two great-granddaughters: Jemma Enger and Bailey Garlie, along with five sisters and two brothers: Christine Jackson of Michigan, Hazel Hansen of Billings, MT, Morris (Betty) Enger of Apache Junction, AZ, Melvin (Pat) Enger of Missouri, Helen Martin of Vergas, MN, Mary Ann (Jerry) Tenderholt of Hawley, MN and Norma (Ted) Steidl of Lake Miltona. He is preceded in death by his parents.
