Edith Grace Hansen was born on March 28, 1936 to Mylie and Ella Porter in Duluth, MN. She died peacefully at home on August 6, 2024 in Detroit Lakes, MN in the care of her loved ones at the age of 88. She is now in Heaven with the Lord Jesus Christ, reunited with her daughter, Pamela, who died of pancreatic cancer in 2015. She will be greatly missed.
Edith graduated from Duluth Central High School in 1956 and loved activities including cheerleading, singing, music and leadership events. After graduation, she attended the University of Minnesota, Duluth and then traveled across the United States singing in many prominent night clubs and entertainment venues. She was a model for several magazines and jewelry companies. This all led to her prestigious career as a Flight Attendant for North Central Airlines (Delta Airlines). She was regularly featured in their advertisements. While working as a flight attendant, she met Eugene Hansen of Detroit Lakes, who was a civil engineer for the Minnesota Department of Transportation. They married in Minneapolis and traveled across the United States as Eugene developed his own Civil Engineering business. They eventually settled in Detroit Lakes where they raised 5 children.
Edith was a strong and determined woman who had the gift of encouragement. She believed anything was possible with God, just try! Edith loved to travel and made numerous trips to countries throughout Europe, Central America and a special trip to Israel.
Edith leaves behind the Love of her Life, Eugene; twin daughters: Linda Harris (Ken) of Monument, CO, and Cindy Bobb (Jay) of Garretson, SD; sons: Steven (Susan) Hansen of Montrose, MN and Michael Hansen of Detroit Lakes. She additionally leaves behind three brothers Tommy, Johnny, and Jimmy, as well as 14 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her daughter, Pamela; both her parents, sister Virginia, brothers Mickey, Philip, Paul and one great grandchild. Funeral services will be held at Faith Lutheran Church on Friday, August 16th at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.
