Edna B. Newman, 98, resident of Detroit Lakes, died Tuesday, January 24 at Ecumen-Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes. Funeral Services for Edna will be held Monday, January 30 at 10:30 AM at Zion Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes. Visitation will be held Sunday, January 29 at David Donehower Funeral Home from 4PM-6PM. Visitation will also continue Monday at the church one hour prior to services. Interment will be held in Oak Grove Cemetery, Detroit Lakes. Edna Bertha Schultz was born April 26, 1918 in Erie Township near Detroit Lakes. She attended rural District 26 country school. On September 21, 1940 she was united in marriage to Emil "Bud" Newman in Detroit Lakes. In 1947 Edna and Bud started Twin Haven Mink Ranch. They owned and operated the mink ranch until 1992. They also founded Twin Haven Estates, a mobile home park outside of Detroit Lakes. During her younger years, Edna enjoyed music. She was one of the singers and piano player for the Eddie's Old Timers Orchestra, often playing at the Erie 34 Supper Club. Her future husband Bud was her biggest fan. Edna had many hobbies. She had a "green thumb" and grew some of the most beautiful flower gardens every summer. She was a talented seamstress, making most her children's clothing and the occasional Barbie doll dress for her daughters. She loved to go shopping, playing Saturday night cards with her husband and friends and was a proud member of the Nomad Camping Club. During retirement, Edna and Bud wintered in Mesa, AZ until Bud's health started to decline. Edna's pride and joy was her family. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Edna will be remembered and missed by her children: Jim (Sandy) Newman of Hot Springs, Mt, Allan (Deborah) Newman of Osage, Mn, Lynne (Doug) Krieger of Detroit Lakes and Debbie (Bill) Dillon of Detroit Lakes. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and one sister-in-law: Carol Schultz of Minot, ND. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bud, one daughter and son-in-law: Vicki and Don Gravelle along with two brothers: Eddie Schultz and Walter Schultz and one sister: Luella Disse.
